First Aid Basics

Minor Cuts, Scrapes, Abrasions

Whether you are at home, school, running errands, at the office, or on the road traveling, there is always the chance that you might sustain a cut, scrape, abrasion, or other non life threatening skin injury. The Mayo Clinic First-Aid Guide recommends the approach listed below. We have added the appropriate AQtiv PURE antimicrobial products that would assist with the different first aid needs.

  1. Stop the bleeding: Most minor cuts or scrapes stop bleeding on their own. If not, apply a clean cloth or bandage for up to 20-30 minutes if necessary. If blood flow doesn’t stop or if blood is spurting, seek medical attention.
  2. Clean the wound of debris: Rinse out the wound with AQtiv PURE Skin Cleanser and water. If water is not available, use AQtiv PURE alcohol free Hand & Body Sanitizer Spray or Gel for a gentle, sting free substitute for water. There’s no need for using hydrogen peroxide, iodine, or iodine containing cleansers as they irritate live cells and can retard healing.
  3. Apply a non-drying, non-irritating antiseptic: After cleansing wound, apply AQtiv PURE Hand & Body Sanitizer Gel to seal out germs while moisturizers keep skin hydrated.
  4. Apply bandage if needed: Depending on the severity of the injury, you may apply an appropriate bandage if needed to protect or keep wound clean. Minor cuts, scrapes, and the like heal faster when exposed to air and when AQtiv PURE Hand & Body Sanitizer Gel or Spray is applied three times daily. AQtiv PURE antimicrobials provide maximum infection protection with broad spectrum killing strength that seal out germs while they soothe and hydrate the infected area to accelerate healing and reduce pain, inflammation, and scarring.
  5. Watch for signs of infection: Look for swelling, inflammation, redness, increased pain, pus or drainage. If condition worsens, seek medical attention.

Minor Burns

  1. Cool wound: Run water over burn for 15 minutes. Caution: Do not use ice and avoid breaking blisters. Breaking blisters increases the potential risk for infection.
  2. Apply soothing, non-drying antiseptic: Keep burn moisturized and sanitized by applying AQtiv PURE Hand & Body Sanitizer Spray or Gel at least three times daily. AQtiv PURE antimicrobials provide maximum infection protection with broad spectrum killing strength that seal out germs while they soothe and hydrate the infected area to accelerate healing and reduce pain, inflammation, and scarring.
  3. Watch for infection: Look for swelling, inflammation, redness, increased pain, pus or drainage. If condition worsens, seek medical attention.
  4. Cover with loose, dry, sterile bandage: It is important not to place pressure on the burn. Wrap gauze loosely on burn. Avoid using fluffy cotton which can stick to wound and cause irritation.
  5. Pain relievers: If needed take an over-the-counter (OTC) pain reliever.
